A Comprehensive Approach to Hearing Healthcare
Palmetto Family Hearing takes a whole person approach to hearing healthcare. Hearing loss is a medical condition that can have long term effects on other parts of your health and well-being. Hearing loss can be linked to heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure, and when left untreated, it can lead to mental health problems such as cognitive decline. This is why we offer a whole-body approach to treatment.
Speech in Noise Testing
Speech in noise testing (SIN) is used to determine how well you can understand words and speech in competing noise. Background noise is a part of daily life and can be a major cause of frustration for those with hearing loss. Using speech in noise testing, our team can better determine how to best help you hear clearly in any environment.
Cognivue
Cognivue screening is a quick test that evaluates three cognitive functions: memory, visuospatial, and executive function as well as reaction time and speed processing. This screening is a major step toward identifying cognitive decline caused by depression, anxiety, and hearing loss.
Verifit: Verification of Hearing Aid Fitting
Verifying how well sound is coming from your hearing aids into your ear is crucial for better hearing. Our team will place a small probe in the ear canal with the hearing device and speech input is played at moderate and loud volumes to measure if the sound is being diminished or enhanced at each frequency. This way we can fine-tune your devices based on your specific needs.
Complete Diagnostic Hearing Evaluations
We offer hearing tests in Fort Mill, SC and Waxhaw, NC for individuals of all ages. During your hearing test, we will be measuring your ability to hear different words and tones at various frequencies. This will help us understand your degree of hearing loss and how it affects your speech comprehension. We will perform a series of tests including:
- Otoscopy
- Pure Tone Audiometry
- Speech Audiometry
- Tympanometry
- Acoustic Reflexes
- Otoacoustic Emission
- Pediatric Audiometry (Ages 3+)
Tinnitus Evaluation and Treatment
Tinnitus is the perception of a sound inside your head or ears. Commonly known as “ringing in the ears,” tinnitus affects millions of Americans. Symptoms of tinnitus include hearing a ringing, humming, whistling, or whooshing sound in your ears when there is no external sound present.
During your hearing exam we can perform a tinnitus test to determine the severity and cause of the ringing in your ears. Tinnitus treatment includes counseling, sound therapy, and hearing aids. We carry hearing aids that have a tinnitus masking feature that can help distract your brain from the symptoms of tinnitus.
Our audiologist certified in tinnitus retraining, Dr. King, specializes in tinnitus and can help stop the ringing in your ears.

Custom-Fit Hearing Protection
Your hearing is a crucial part of your well-being and ability to communicate with those you love. It’s important to protect your hearing now and for the future. Nose-induced hearing loss is the second most common cause of hearing loss after presbycusis (age-related hearing loss). It can develop naturally as a result of repeated exposure to loud noise or it can happen suddenly due to an extremely loud sound.
At Palmetto Family Hearing Center, we can create custom-fit hearing protection to preserve your hearing and prevent any noise-induced damage. We offer:
- Musician’s Plugs and In-Ear Monitors
- Earplugs for Industrial Worker’s
- Swim Molds
- Custom Ear Molds
Assistive Listening Devices
Assistive listening devices (ALDs) are great to use along with hearing aids to better improve speech recognition in difficult listening environments. At our hearing clinic, we carry a wide range of ALDs that can enhance your hearing in certain situations. From TV streamers that allow you to connect your hearing aids directly to your TV to alerting devices, we carry many options to make your hearing experience more seamless.
At Palmetto Family Hearing Center, we carry Roger Technology from Phonak. You can use Roger in challenging listening situations such as restaurants, meetings at work, and school activities to boost your hearing performance.
